I was going through my pastor's blog ( http://www.edyoungblog.com ) and came across a guest blog from his wife, Lisa Young, that I wanted to share with you:
"Just a few days ago I watched something unfold which I know to be true, but found great to see played out so close to home.
Our family loaded up and headed out of town for the beginning of our summer vacation. Only this trip didn't just include our family. Several of Ed's fishing buddies were in tow for a getaway of their own.
As the five of them headed out for an adventurous fishing expedition, it was fun to see that even at the ripe old age of 47, a grown man can get pumped about hanging out with some good friends.
As our daughter Landra watched these guys interact and act like kids, she commented on how her dad was laughing more than she had seen in a long time. She even said, "What's up with Dad?!"
I had to laugh at her response, but quickly said a prayer of thanksgiving to the Lord for giving Ed this time of refreshment and relaxation that comes from time away with replenishing friends.
Anyone in the ministry knows the value of having close friends to share with and to laugh with. As these guys cast out for "the big one," they are pouring into each other. And when they get back, they'll have stories to tell and laugh over for years. (Fish stories are always the biggest and the best!)
No matter where your ministry is--in the home, at the office or in a church--I pray that you find and develop those relationships that energize and recharge you so that you can do everything God wants you to do with excitement and enthusiasm. And I pray that through this summer you will have some fish stories of your own!"
As most of you know, my family is very spread out across the world. Although we remain very close, my friends are therefore even more important and just like family to me. I always love to meet new people, because I do believe that God energizes us, talks to us and moves us through the people He brings into our lives. So it is important to remain open and always invite new ones in as well as nourish the friendships we have. Sometimes, it is inevitable that some valuable friendships end or slow down. Rest assured these people have played a vital role in our lives while they were in it. And they are never forgotten. Maybe someday, they might even step back into our lives.
This summer, some friendships closed the door for a while, some re-emerged in a new light, and some beautiful ones were born. I had the priviledge of strengthening a friendship very dear to my heart. This person has since moved (again) but these summer months insured our friendship will endure past any distances. We definitely have some "Fish Stories" to share for years to come!
As to the old and previous 'fish stories' of friends not as vividly in our lives anymore; they are always a source of smiles and the reason we remain open to life's ever so interesting pages and chapters.
So many thoughts come into my mind when I'm just walking down the street; different thoughts: some happy, some sad, some analytical and some just mind-bogglingly funny! Fragments, pieces of my mind and heart that I want to share with you. Here, I can give my blabber free reign. And I can't believe you actually want to read some of it, too...! PLEASE keep visiting; you will find something here for you...

New Beginnings
I wrote this a few months ago, but didn't manage to post it. Here we go...
It's a sunny Saturday morning, I've had a long week, and frankly I'm loving just sitting in bed with the sun shining on my dog Rusty while he's keeping his eyes closed, and my laptop in front of me as I wish all of you a good morning. :)
My neighbor is blasting some really cool Jazz, but since I'm enjoying it, I really cannot complain. :) As I read through what you guys have written, one theme comes to mind as it permeates through all the blogs: New Beginnings.
Some of you miss home, some miss friends and loved ones that are no longer and some are contemplating life. One of my friends witnessed the end of a beautiful life at a funeral, another read an interesting article about letting go. It seems that no matter how much we miss the past, and how much transposing ourselves into it can bring feelings of nostalgia, it still remains just that: the past. In essence it's the dead weight that can drag you behind the pace of life, or it can be the force pushing you forward. Either way, notice I didn't tell you to forget about it, to shed it. Because it's what makes you who you are today. Without it you are "a lone reed, standing in the wind". Keep it ALL OVER you, and it will surely drown you and ensure that you cannot move forward. Part of letting go is holding on to any good memories and the learnings, for surely there is something to be learned, at the very least about yourself.
Once you've gone through all this in your head and have found all that is to learn and understand, once you've understood the lessons God, Karma or any other higher natural power intended for you to take by going through the experience, look ahead. Start anew and don't be afraid. For only fear of not finding life to offer even more is what keeps us in the past, keeps us entangled in what will ultimately be a settlement we will no longer be passionate for, because it is seriously lacking to us.
But new beginnings are demanding; they are like an only child who loves attention. New beginnings want yours. They want every positive force in you, so they can lift you up as high as can be. And soon you'll realize you almost slipped into the mistake of dying with the dead past, when life is just around the corner.
This morning, with the sun in your eyes, be you well rested or hung over, smile and make this a new beginning. Enough thoughts of "the end" of the past. This is not a week-END. It's a life BEGINNING!
GOOD MORNING TO YA!
